About Draconis Vineyards
Draconis was started in 2004 and is located at the apex of the San Francisco bay delta region in the Lodi Appellation (40 miles East of Napa).
The winery is singularly focused on high-end California wines and not open to the public.
My winemaker is JC Van Staden winner of the Air France 'Winemaker of the Year' award in 2003 for his work in Burgundy, France - source of some of the best wines in the world.
On average, I only make about 300 cases of Draconis wine annually; and that's it. If i made any more, then i'd risk losing the quality of the wine.
About the Lodi Appellation
The Lodi AVA is home to many famous wineries such as Woodbridge* by Robert Mondavi and 7-Deadly Zins* by Michael David.
95% of the worlds Zinfandel comes from this region because of its microclimate. Lodi is hot during the day and cool at night thanks to the San Francisco bay delta breezes.
Old-vine Zinfandel simply grows the best in this AVA.
Draconis' strengths are its red wines; Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Syrah. The first Draconis white wine will be available for the 2010 vintage.
